What is the difference between downlights and recessed light?
Downlights fall into the recessed light category. They are specifically designed to direct lighting downwards and are available in a variety of styles. There are canless downlights, adjustable downlights, and retrofit downlights. They are all used for various purposes and are different than typical recessed lighting. Traditional recessed lighting has three components including housing, trim, and a bulb.
What is the best type of LED downlight?
There is no one size fits all when it comes to downlights. There are three types of LED Downlights that can be considered to fit the needs of the project.
LED Recessed retrofit downlights are the easiest for updating existing traditional recessed lighting. They are simple to install and increase the energy efficiency of the fixture easily.
Gimbal or adjustable downlights are used to provide directional lighting by adjusting the trim. Many art galleries and retail stores use them to highlight artwork or displays. These downlights are available in a variety of options including trims that can install into traditional recessed housings, LED canless downlights, and LED retrofits.
LED canless downlights are the newest LED downlights that come in two options: remote driver or built-in driver on back. The traditional recessed housing is not used with this option.
