FAQ
Q: Can you put led tube lights in a fluorescent fixture? Can I replace my fluorescent T8 linear bulbs with LEDs?
A: Yes, LED tubes are designed fit in the same sockets as traditional fluorescent tubes however there are two main types of LED tube lamps available - Type A Ballast Compatible and Type B Ballast Bypass.
Type A Ballast Compatible (also known as plug-and-play) are designed to work with the existing fluorescent ballast in the fixture. It is important to know the specific ballast in the fluorescent fixture and ensure compatibility with the LED Tube BEFORE selecting a Type A tube. Not all Type A LED Tubes work with every fluorescent ballast. Ensuring compatibility is vital to safe installation and operation!
Type B Ballast Bypass (also know as direct wire) require the fluorescent ballast to be cut out and removed from the circuit before installation. These tubes CANNOT be installed with a fluorescent ballast in place!
Combination Type AB tubes are hybrid which can be installed as plug-and-play or as ballast bypass. It is important to ensure ballast compatibility for these tubes if planned to use with existing fluorescent ballast. Type AB can be used with or without a ballast. It is ultimately the buyer's preference what they want to do. Type A installation uses the LED Tube + Ballast power for more energy consumption compared to Type B installation only uses the raw tube power and is more energy-efficient.
Q: Can a T8 LED Replace a T12?
A: Yes, a T8 can replace a T12 bulb of the same length and wattage.
Q: What is the lifespan of LED Tubes?
A: LED Tubes last 50,000 hours on average compared to an average of 20,000 hours for fluorescent tubes.
Emergency Drivers: Constant-power emergency drivers with 90-minute run time are available to add on to your LED high bays to increase fire safety and comply with local fire safety codes. Check out our selection of LED emergency drivers.
